This month it’s my pleasure to feature Tosha Michelle.

Here is how Tosha describes herself in her profile:
Poet and musician. Author of Confessions of a Reformed Southern Belle: A Poet’s Collection of Love, Loss, and Renewal, and Self Help to Self Harm: The Dubious Guide to Life, Love, and Relationships. Podcast host at La Literati. Social Justice advocate Bridge to Freedom. Academia addict. Sempiternal dreamer. Habitual ponderer. Lover of history, free thinkers, and music with lots of brass.

When did you first begin to write poetry and why?
I began writing poetry as a teenager as a way to deal with my emotions. I was quite nerdy and never really fit in. It was a difficult time. Today, I love being quirky, back then it was a detriment.

You have a beautiful voice—Were you shy when you started to record and post your music?
Not really. Oddly enough. music was the one area where I did find a sense of community during my teen years. I was in honors choir and we performed everywhere. Later on, in college I had a band with my boyfriend at the time.

Some bloggers conceptualize multi-media blogging as performance art. Do you think of your blog as performance art?
Not really. Wow, what an engaging answer.

What is a recovered Southern Bell? 🙂
For myself, it just means that while I still embrace my southern roots and believe strongly in manners. I have learned to overcome the need to look and act perfect all the time. I used to be very meek and docile. I now stand up for myself. It took me ages to find my voice but once I discovered it, I will never be silenced again.

You’ve published a book of poems? What have you learned about internet marketing?
It’s an arduous task. You have to be willing to sell yourself. For me, self-promotion doesn’t come easy.
Will you read a poem from your book: Confessions of A Reformed Southern Belle?
Robert, could we post a song instead?
Perfect!
