Thirty Days of Fox News

Fox News – Your Source for Disinformation and Lies.

I tracked Fox News headlines on social media for thirty+ random days and took screenshots.

I saw the following logical fallacies: ad hominem attacks, appeals to ignorance, and the repeated use of the word many as in #ManyPeopleAreSaying.

This fallacy is called the Bandwagon Approach.

The Bandwagon Approach is an,  “Appeal to widespread belief, an appeal to common practice and peer pressure. If the discussion is about social conventions, such as “good manners”, then this is a reasonable line of argument. However, in the 1800’s there was a widespread belief that bloodletting cured sickness. These people were not just wrong, but horribly wrong, because it made people sicker. Clearly, the popularity of an idea is no guarantee that it’s right.  A common justification for bribery is everybody does it; in the past, this was also a justification for slavery. Liberalism and Conservatism are points of view and both points of view are
needed for a balanced political debate.

Genuine conservatism is about preserving the best of our traditions while working with Liberals to move our country forward.

There was a time when liberals and conservatives agreed that respectful disagreement was in the best interest of the country.

To someone who was raised on journalists like Walter Cronkite and a news media regulated by the fairness doctrine a news network or media outlet that shapes the
news to fit its dogma is something I’d expect from one of the fictional tyrannies in Mission Impossible.

Why is Obama ‘so adamant’ to protect Islam?

It’s the President’s job to protect and defend Constitution and to represent the interests of all citizens.

Islāmic Americans are among the people President Obama swore by oath to represent.

3.3 million Muslims live in the United States.

Slaves were well fed and had decent longings provided by the Government.

O’Reilly’s idiotic comment is historically inaccurate and inflammatory.

    1. It was an interesting experiement. I noticed a pattern and decided to track it. Fox News is unlike any other media outlet in that it clearly twists facts to fit a right wing narrative. Hillary Clinton could wrap herself in the flag and Fox would accuse her of having sex with it.

  1. I think journalism is dying, Robert. Along with that, the American people are getting dumbed-down and numbed-out by facts or the lack thereof. No longer can one interpret the news on his own, but now we’re told how to feel and what to think about the events. It’s disheartening on many levels. Laziness of the mind.

So often, I see a headline and a photo and I’ll think, “Well that can’t be right.” I go in search of more information and there is none. Cause it’s not real. But people don’t check, they don’t ask, they take it as real news, and worse, they spread it! Beyond that, the number of people who read the headline and not the article, well, that’s disturbing, too.

    #ManyPeopleAreSaying Fox News isn’t news.

    1. Journalism isn’t dying as long as we got independent bloggers.

What if every blogger on wordpress decided to write one fact media fact checking blog a week
or even a blog post about how the quality of their lives have been compromised by bad public policies
      and predatory capitalism.

I may not have the skill of a trained Journalist but it’s kind of impressive to see the hateful intensity of the smears this purported news outlet directs at Hillary Clinton every day.

When you realize that right wing media has done this to her for two decades it’s no surprise
      It’s almost a given that she’s crooked.

I have read that many of the themes of Trump’s Presidency and the talking points from Fox are consistent with Putin’s talking points and the rhetoric in Pravda for which Paul Craig Roberts writes.

      I’m researching that now.

This is a new way for me to be politically active. I’m having fun with it. 🙂

It’s all about numbers. If the X numbers of extremists are spreading lies than those of us who disagree must show up to debunk those likes in larger numbers.

Maybe some genius can start a Citizen’s Truth Squad. LOL

      1. July 11, 2016 Paul Craig Roberts — Vladimir Putin Is The Only Leader The West Has If We Don’t Support Him Washington Will Destroy Life on Earth

Dr. Paul Craig Roberts was the United States Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Economic Policy under President Ronald Reagan

He has money, contacts, and influence.

As with everyone, he’s right about many things. But he’s right for the wrong reasons:

“Roberts has particularly condemned former Secretary of State and 2016 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, as well as the neoconservatives of the Republican Party.”

Paul Craig Roberts is hard right.

“Roberts has been also been extremely critical of the mainstream media, believing that media bias is prevalent in favor of US political establishment views and agendas.”

Doesn’t that sound like someone we know?

Robert’s is hard right: a second amendment type:

In March 2016, Roberts published an article claiming that many pictures associated with the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting were “doctored.” He further claimed that he was unable to determine if the shootings had actually taken place or not

In a column for the Ron Paul Institute, Roberts said that the U.S. government executed the Charlie Hebdo attack in Paris to punish France for its independent foreign policy. He cited its vote to recognize Palestine as a state at the United Nations and French President Hollande’s call to ease sanctions on Russia.

Roberts has questioned the official account of the 2016 Orlando nightclub shooting, stating, “The visual evidence does not match the verbal reports”

He has said that a lack of body bags, security footage, and general primary sources, should warrant suspicion in regards to the authenticity of the official account for the attack.

He has suggested that the Orlando attack might be a false flag operation, conducted for increased public approval for- and eventually, the implementation of gun control.

To read a former member of the Reagan administration describe a Russian Premier as our savior makes me wonder WTF is going on…especially when so much of what Trump and his followers say.

        I think it’s crazy not to wonder….

  2. Fox is like the National Enquirer of news. I think it’s really sad that truth is no longer a requirement of our news. People watch this stuff and believe it. Our tv news, in general, is so vacuous that it misdirects the national attention away from the serious issues facing our nation and world. It’s propaganda for the unthinking masses. True journalism has surrendered to political partisanship and stories about inconsequential fluff. A sobering subject, Robert.

    1. I began to feel sick as I organized the timeline of headlines; it also felt like indoctrination.

If Fox news were my ONLY source of information I would lose all access to my intellect.

Every headline is designed to induce a rage.

There are dark forces running Fox News.

Consider the irresponsibility of running a headline that says Blacks are violently
targeting Whites during a deadly riot.

Now consider that the source of the headline from a major news outlet was a
private right wing conspiracy blog that faked the video.

Fox News is seriously messing with the heads of their viewers.

      But to what end?

      Liked by 1 person

      1. I have no idea to what end. It’s all a manifestion of a psyche ruled by fear. Fear of other, fear of losing control, fear that others will take what you have, fear of losing power, fear of love, fear of vulnerability, fear of sharing, fear that there’s not enough for all, fear of the devil, fear of God, fear that they’re going to take your stuff, fear that you won’t be able to do what you want, fear that your wrong, fear, fear, fear.

  3. GOOD JOB! Then some of the pundits go on other shows like CNN to spout these so called truths only to be challenged by others. I just witnessed this last night with Anderson as the host. A conservative started saying that “Black Lives Matter” hates cops and is promoting the killing of police only to be jumped on by others. He has been hearing this on FOX TV. These people live in an alternate universe just talking with those who think like they do. They helped create Trump.

    1. Thank you…I’m collecting another round of these; especially now that I’ve learned that the best way to present them is with a fact check.

I think everyone should so it. Hell, given that Fox places our lives in danger by inciting violence I think everyone who intends to vote Blue this year should boycott their sponsors and let them know why.

  4. Uncanny that we were playing the same game. yet managed to compliment one another’s findings. They cut and clip and create dialogue, talking points and alter history. But in all fairness, a number of the panelist and reporters, are not allowing journalistic integrity to slip completely away. Even though there are plenty of pundits ready to fill tje void, it was still nice to see. Thank you for sharing RG

    1. Thanks for reading the post Kendall and for leaving a comment. It does seem that this election is separating the girls from the women…

We got conservatives with no integrity who are willing to promote a racist and dangerous man to the white house for a bag of extra change and we got adults who are citizens first and conservatives second.

We should thank Trump for giving the nation a chance to see people acting on integrity.
