THE YEAR 2016

During the early months of 2016, the world was shinning.

The promise of progress and positive change was in the air.

I married the love of my life in early January.

There is no doubt in my mind that 2016 has been a difficult year, full of change, challenges, losses, promises, conflicts and uncertainty.

Many loved ones have been lost that we are aware of and plenty must have been lost that we do not know about.

Personally, it’s been difficult for me because I have seen the ‘melting away‘ of institutions that have been very sacred to me.

I do not have today the hope, the joy and the looking forward to the next year (2017) that frequently accompanies this festivity.

I’m very concerned about 2017.

It’s lost the shine and luster that usually comes with new beginnings.

424 different bird species have been identified at The Salton Sea, including this handsome Snowy Egret with striped stocking legs.

The placid Black Bellied Plover eats bugs in the sand,

while White Pelicans lumber off as I near.

Hello everyone, this is my 1st official blog post. I thought this topic would be a great for discussion because it’s so controversial. Before I dive into it, just a little information about myself, I have been a psychiatric nurse for almost 5 years. I have a Master’s Degree in Nursing and have cared for patients aged 4 to 102 all in mental health, behavioral health, psychiatry, whatever you like to call it. Although to some may seem like a short time in the field, I have learned so much and experienced more.  I love working in mental health, it’s a field of medicine that requires a “grey” thinking mindset.  I have grown passionately about mental health and caring for this vulnerable patient population.
