Here are a few shots from Sunday’s Pride celebration in San Francisco.
I thought about the people I marched with in the GLF in the early 1970’s
and later, with Act–Up, in the 1980’s.
It felt good to hear the speakers honor the work we did in those decades
I thought of friends who passed from AIDS, or later from grief and trauma.
I think they’d be pleased that gay liberation became a global movement
for universal Human rights.

The Rights of People of Color are human rights.

The rights of Immigrants and refugees are human rights.

Women’s rights are human rights.

LGBTQ rights are human rights.

The right to age with dignity and respect is a human right.

The rights of the disabled are human rights.

Love, defiance and pride are strong weapons against hate and tyranny.

Looks like a wonderful day was had by all, Rob. Great photography, and so good to see everyone coming together to celebrate diversity. Happy Pride. 🌈

Thank you, Hugh. There was a different tone to this. It didn’t have the celebratory feeling of the 2014 and 15. I’m glad I got these shots. These are historic times–again.

I think Pride has changed over the years, Rob. Certainly over here in the UK, many of the events have become more commercialised. People still have a good time, but big brands have got involved and seem to only want to promote themselves.

In San Francisco the mood was more angry and the sense of unity transcended demographics. The pride rally felt more political then it’s felt in years.

Wonderful post for my Wednesday, Rob. The photos are even better than I expected. Such color, and so perfectly inclusive! Well done, my friend!
I have too many favorites to name one. (Although I admit I did spend a disproportionate amount of time looking at the guy with all the beads, helping the oldster in the wheel chair… I’m really not a cougar — just human. Now… what was I talking about?)
Great big hug!

Lol! Thanks Teagan. My guess is that guy is a professional caregiver. Thank you for the comments on the photos. I was out all day and got hundreds of them.

Feel free to share them all. I don’t expect to ever be there, so I’m not ashamed to drink up the atmosphere vicariously. 🙂

I’m thinking of making a resistance video. I have shots from the Science and Tax Day marches. This ‘gay day’ hasn’t felt this political in decades. It felt like it was about a whole lot more than being gay.
