I am not that little boy
who lay awake at night
dreading the touch
of a pedophile’s
hands
– I am not that little boy –
But I will never forget
his pain or dishonor
his torment by
pretending it
never happened.

This is heartbreaking, but beautiful in its simplicity.

It came out when I read Peter’s last entry. I’m not that boy; I am the man who must live with his pain.

A beautiful poem on what must be a truly painful subject

Being raped and then blamed for being raped is one of life’s cruelest double whammies.

Well said, Robert. To never forget. But…to live your life, find your peace, in spite of it.

I wrote this as a reminder to myself, a way of telling myself to snap out of it and come back to the present. And you’re right, there is nothing I can do to change what happens. Once a child is broken they are consigned to living lives in spite of what was done. And that’s why survivors have to speak out…
Children have a right to safety, protection, good food and everything they need to face the challenges of adulthood.

Indeed…when that person does not show any remorse or even denial when confronted…THAT is what hurts even more.

Agreed Paula. It’s not just the physical abuse, it’s the gaslighting of the abuser and his or her complicit enablers. There are people in this world who have no sense of right or wrong. To them, life is a game and the rest of us are suckers.
