I got the idea of asking questions of other bloggers from Danny at Dream Big, Dream, Dream Often.
Question: Do you find it difficult to keep up with your blog when youโre making
content?

I’m out most of day and will respond as soon as I’m home.
About 18 months ago, I would have said yes. I got stressed out by it and knew I had to either change something or quit blogging altogether. I decided to find a balance and made some changes to the way I blog. I found out that blogging does not require you to publish a post every day. There’s no rule about how often we should publish posts, just go with whatever makes you feel happy. However, the most important thing to remember is to ensure that you keep having fun with blogging and continue to enjoy it. If it starts to stress you out or make you feel guilty, then it’s time to rethink how you’re doing it.
A great question, Rob.

Thanks for answering the question Hugh. I’m glad you mentioned guilt; I think it may be a common thing among bloggers and may be why many stop blogging. Great answer!

I agree, Rob. That or getting too stressed out with blogging, especially when the stats do not materialise.

There are certain gaming elements built into social media platforms.
I see the emphasis on stats as a product of that.

I find it hard to keep up with blogging in general, Robert, let alone creating content! ๐ It’s time-consuming. But so worth it to make all these wonderful connections around the world.

Thanks Diana! Do you have a schedule?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Sort of. I try to post every 3 days and have at least one of those a creative piece. Between writing posts, visiting, comments, and replying, I probably blog about 25-30 hours a week.

Thanks for the reply Diana. It’s definitely a forty hour a week job, more if you include making content, plus the time we need to have lives. ๐

Hi, itโs more about finding enough time to right meaningful content.

I think I understand. I’m not sure I understand what you mean by meaningful.

Hi! I mean content that has depth and isnโt just letters and words to a page for the sake of posting. It takes more time to write those kinds of pieces and Iโm already in school.

I have times when I read through a draft of a blog post and decide I didn’t know what the hell I was trying to say and just delete without posting. The exercise of writing isn’t my usual problem, it is finding the right things to say without repeating myself. I have resorted to reposting items that interest me because I don’t see the need to rewrite them to claim any credit for myself. Sometimes, the words just won’t come out right.

I think I understand. I recently posted a poem and discovered I’d published the same poem under a different name two years ago. I was so horrified I impulsively deleted the post. The most important thing to get is the draft Once you have the draft you start refining and adding and deleting and restoring and re imagining and reliving and never throw anything out. Stuff I would have tossed 20 years ago is some of my best work. Writing emotionally messy. ๐

For nine months in 2017, I wrote at least six posts per week, then it slowed to a crawl. I haven’t exactly run out of ideas, but I know that some will require a lot more effort than my previous posts. I feel that it’s like recovery. Some phases are much more difficult than others and require more effort.

I don’t any longer, but did a couple years ago. Now producing my daily content is regimented and comes like breathing to me. Blogging is a huge part of my life and couldn’t go a day without producing content. Maybe I’m addicted?! ๐

My first response was to the question of addiction was to ask, can one be addicted to one’s profession? My next thought was yes! So, I’m going to treat your question as rhetorical. ๐

Editing is an essential part of the process of writing content. It usually takes me longer to edit a piece.

I seldom edit. Only when it’s long or emotional.

I edit the poetry, which includes the prose work and the dialogues. I find that as I acquire more insight and skill the writing ‘reveals’ more of itself, especially the work I produced in the first decade of the AIDS epidemic. I know it sounds arty farty and light headed; I wish I could express the experience more clearly.

I ran into a rabid Trump supporter today. Every question I asked about Trump was answered with “Obama did more and worse!” I, unlike this guy, don’t yell while having a conversation. I guess yelling for republicans proves that they’re right and just like Trump everything he disagrees with his fake news… Which is everything. When these people single me out in a crowd because my political views are widely known I can’t help but laugh at them because they all say the exact same thing. It is an ignorant cult and Trump is using nuclear war with North Korea in the same way that Jim Jones used his Kool-Aid.๐จ

I don’t understand his base and I no longer have patience for them. I trust my own judgment and my own eyes. It’s obvious that a foreign government controls our government and weโre way past picking sides: there are only two sides: the United States or Russia. Americans who still support Trump have picked their side.
The only thing I want to hear from them is an apology.

100%! One thing the Trumper’s all have in common is there still waiting on that birth certificate that no amount of proof will ever convince them it’s real. Now that’s how a racist “thinks ahead.” The Trumper that yelled at me yesterday said “I lost my health insurance because of Obamacare!” (yelling) he’s 74 years old and been on Medicare and Medicaid since he went on disability in 1988. LOL! My Philosophy about Republicans has always been and will always be “Shun them. They are willfully ignorant and dangerous.” we simply have to out-vote them.๐

I grew up with these people. They’re the kind of people who call a five year old a Kike and complain about getting blood on their hands after they assault him. They’re walking talking #shitholes who have no business running our government.

Exactly! The creative process is different for everyone. Mine involves a certain amount of lying around doing nothing while I fret about lying around doing nothing. Gertrude Stein said, โIt takes a lot of time to be a genius. You have to sit around so much, doing nothing, really doing nothing.โ I replace the word genius with artist.

Hmm, I feel like kind of owe it to my followers to keep up what the reason was they started following me. So when I see a time coming when I am not able to post or to read posts of my fellow friends, I announce it at least. But I love to keep my series up on a regular basis. Yes, at times it can be challenging… but it is a blessed challenge!

Yes! What takes up the most time, though, are the conversations. I started the New Year deciding I would cut down drastically on initiating or responding but of course, some people blog for the interaction alone and so I feel guilty. But the guilt has to go. I see it as another battle in a Civil War that never really ended; well into the 20th Century some people
in the South used nullification, lynching, Jim Crow, enforced segregation, gerrymandering, voter intimidation, voter suppression laws, and now they even use of a foreign power to impose an apartheid government in the United States. What do they want? The answer is they want slaves, and theyโve found a way to do it with the for profit โprison industryโ. The American Civil War never ended; it won’t end until the stupid rich stop exploiting the ignorant idea that people with pale skin are better than the rest of us.
It is demonstrably untrue.

I don’t blame you. My posts are predominantly Photo challenges now though, so scanning my archives for ones that match the criteria is about the extent of effort I have to expel. Writers though? Artists, graphic or otherwise? I could see those endeavors becoming time consuming for sure. ๐
