I have a question for you – 1/15/2018

I got the idea of asking questions of other bloggers from Danny at Dream Big, Dream, Dream Often.

Question: Do you find it difficult to keep up with your blog when you’re making
content?

I’m out most of day and will respond as soon as I’m home.

  1. About 18 months ago, I would have said yes. I got stressed out by it and knew I had to either change something or quit blogging altogether. I decided to find a balance and made some changes to the way I blog. I found out that blogging does not require you to publish a post every day. There’s no rule about how often we should publish posts, just go with whatever makes you feel happy. However, the most important thing to remember is to ensure that you keep having fun with blogging and continue to enjoy it. If it starts to stress you out or make you feel guilty, then it’s time to rethink how you’re doing it.
    A great question, Rob.

      1. Hi! I mean content that has depth and isn’t just letters and words to a page for the sake of posting. It takes more time to write those kinds of pieces and I’m already in school.

      2. Haaaaahaaaaa pretty much!!! I’m not in there too often. Once in a while I’ll connect with someone who’s supporting a worthy cause. However, it’s usually randomness I don’t understand!

  2. I have times when I read through a draft of a blog post and decide I didn’t know what the hell I was trying to say and just delete without posting. The exercise of writing isn’t my usual problem, it is finding the right things to say without repeating myself. I have resorted to reposting items that interest me because I don’t see the need to rewrite them to claim any credit for myself. Sometimes, the words just won’t come out right.

    1. I think I understand. I recently posted a poem and discovered I’d published the same poem under a different name two years ago. I was so horrified I impulsively deleted the post. The most important thing to get is the draft Once you have the draft you start refining and adding and deleting and restoring and re imagining and reliving and never throw anything out. Stuff I would have tossed 20 years ago is some of my best work. Writing emotionally messy. 😉

  3. For nine months in 2017, I wrote at least six posts per week, then it slowed to a crawl. I haven’t exactly run out of ideas, but I know that some will require a lot more effort than my previous posts. I feel that it’s like recovery. Some phases are much more difficult than others and require more effort.

  4. I don’t any longer, but did a couple years ago. Now producing my daily content is regimented and comes like breathing to me. Blogging is a huge part of my life and couldn’t go a day without producing content. Maybe I’m addicted?! 🙂

      1. I edit the poetry, which includes the prose work and the dialogues. I find that as I acquire more insight and skill the writing ‘reveals’ more of itself, especially the work I produced in the first decade of the AIDS epidemic. I know it sounds arty farty and light headed; I wish I could express the experience more clearly.

      1. Thank you, very much, for the compliment because I never get to see finished images of a completed picture. I can only see about 10% at a time so it’s always “fingers crossed.” I definitely appreciate any feedback!👍👊

      2. LOL! Truth!
I ran into a rabid Trump supporter today. Every question I asked about Trump was answered with “Obama did more and worse!” I, unlike this guy, don’t yell while having a conversation. I guess yelling for republicans proves that they’re right and just like Trump everything he disagrees with his fake news… Which is everything. When these people single me out in a crowd because my political views are widely known I can’t help but laugh at them because they all say the exact same thing. It is an ignorant cult and Trump is using nuclear war with North Korea in the same way that Jim Jones used his Kool-Aid.😨

      3. I don’t understand his base and I no longer have patience for them. I trust my own judgment and my own eyes. It’s obvious that a foreign government controls our government and we’re way past picking sides: there are only two sides: the United States or Russia. Americans who still support Trump have picked their side.

The only thing I want to hear from them is an apology.

      4. 100%! One thing the Trumper’s all have in common is there still waiting on that birth certificate that no amount of proof will ever convince them it’s real. Now that’s how a racist “thinks ahead.” The Trumper that yelled at me yesterday said “I lost my health insurance because of Obamacare!” (yelling) he’s 74 years old and been on Medicare and Medicaid since he went on disability in 1988. LOL! My Philosophy about Republicans has always been and will always be “Shun them. They are willfully ignorant and dangerous.” we simply have to out-vote them.👊

      5. I grew up with these people. They’re the kind of people who call a five year old a Kike and complain about getting blood on their hands after they assault him. They’re walking talking #shitholes who have no business running our government.

  5. Content issue maybe difficult Rob…but for me its more of how much time I need to invest to come up with a good content…and its really really hard wheb time is not on your side…

    1. Exactly! The creative process is different for everyone. Mine involves a certain amount of lying around doing nothing while I fret about lying around doing nothing. Gertrude Stein said, “It takes a lot of time to be a genius. You have to sit around so much, doing nothing, really doing nothing.” I replace the word genius with artist.

  6. Hmm, I feel like kind of owe it to my followers to keep up what the reason was they started following me. So when I see a time coming when I am not able to post or to read posts of my fellow friends, I announce it at least. But I love to keep my series up on a regular basis. Yes, at times it can be challenging… but it is a blessed challenge!

      1. Of course, you are missed, Robert!! And I really think it shows a lot about the connection between each other if we keep our friends updated… at least regarding our disappearance… lol!

  7. Yes! What takes up the most time, though, are the conversations. I started the New Year deciding I would cut down drastically on initiating or responding but of course, some people blog for the interaction alone and so I feel guilty. But the guilt has to go. You’re not helping with your questions. 🙂

      1. I know. My partner was gone for six weeks and for the first two weeks my sleep patterns were shot.
I sort of adapted the third week and by the fourth relished having our king sized bed to myself. 🙂

I had to go through ‘roominess’ withdrawal when he came back.

      1. I see it as another battle in a Civil War that never really ended; well into the 20th Century some people
in the South used nullification, lynching, Jim Crow, enforced segregation, gerrymandering, voter intimidation, voter suppression laws, and now they even use of a foreign power to impose an apartheid government in the United States. What do they want? The answer is they want slaves, and they’ve found a way to do it with the for profit ‘prison industry’. The American Civil War never ended; it won’t end until the stupid rich stop exploiting the ignorant idea that people with pale skin are better than the rest of us.

        It is demonstrably untrue.

  8. What does that mean? Making content. You mean…keeping up with my writing? I’d say yes, I guess. I have no imagination and since I made a promise to pig-shit that I wouldn’t write about our interaction or the antics of young son, I’m a little limited. I also HATE to write. LOLOL

      1. It’s hard to keep up, isn’t it? I follow over 1000 people, and I sometimes feel as though I’m missing some great stuff. I’m only one guy though. No way I could. Thank goodness not all 1000 of them post on a regular basis. 😃

      1. I don’t blame you. My posts are predominantly Photo challenges now though, so scanning my archives for ones that match the criteria is about the extent of effort I have to expel. Writers though? Artists, graphic or otherwise? I could see those endeavors becoming time consuming for sure. 😃

      2. If I decide to use VR to stage an illustration I have to find to costumes, by or build the props, find the right poses for the Avatars, and dress them. The prep work can take days. I’m not complaining because it’s a labor of love. 🙂
