On October 7th the DHS and the Intelligence Community released a statement on Russian hacking of the election.

They stated that:

The U.S. Intelligence Community (USIC) is confident that the Russian Government directed the recent compromises of e-mails from US persons and institutions, including from US political organizations. The recent disclosures of alleged hacked e-mails on sites like DCLeaks.com and WikiLeaks and by the Guccifer 2.0 online persona are consistent with the methods and motivations of Russian-directed efforts. These thefts and disclosures are intended to interfere with the US election process. Such activity is not new to Moscow—the Russians have used similar tactics and techniques across Europe and Eurasia, for example, to influence public opinion there. We believe, based on the scope and sensitivity of these efforts, that only Russia’s senior-most officials could have authorized these activities.

Chicago rally Chicago rally

On 10/20/16 PolitFact took on the question as alleged by the Donald Trump’s campaign, Were President Obama or Hillary Clinton participants in a tactic of hiring peoples to incite violence during Trump rallies. Steve Contorno reports the following in his article, “Trump says Clinton and Obama paid people to cause violence at his rallies:”

Did you really think primaries were democratic?

Of course the system is rigged.  Didn’t you already know that?  Bernie Sanders did.  He’d been talking about it for months.  So where were your protests while the voting was still going on?  Because guess what?

It’s too late now.  You have two choices.  Only two.  Jill Stein will not win.  Look at the polls.  Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are the choices.  Bernie Sanders conceded.  He did.  Look it up.  There is nothing to be done now, except make you look all delusional.

I wanted the Democrats to choose Bernie Sanders.  I talked and talked about how much better I thought Bernie Sanders would be as President, and about how much more I like his consistent positions on the issues and his idealism.  I really, really wanted them to choose him.  I tried to get people to.  I…

I accept my complicity

The paradox of complicity because it’s the only adult thing to do.

The Monster in Your Closet

I visited my Portland siblings* in mid-April.

Each was able to articulate with great objective detail their basis for supporting Bernie Sanders.

“You should know I support Clinton,” I told them at the beginning of my trip. “She’s a much more practical choice.”

To their credit, none of my siblings rolled their eyes or chided me. They continued to stand for their position, not against mine. By exerting no force whatsoever, they created space for me to hear them. Their firm but quiet passion gave me opportunity to consider why I believed Clinton was a more practical choice, and whether my position was similarly based on objective detail.

On our way back from an ice cream store trip, we saw a Sanders sign in the front lawn of a modest hillside home. The home’s owner saw me stopping and came out to converse with me. She, too, explained why she was
