Competition

from The Little Mermaid

The Little Mermaid

“The veritable competition never was, never is and never will be between you and another person. It is, au fond, all about ‘actual you’ versus ‘potential you’. Remember! In this game, you are either ahead of the curve or you are a diamond in the rough; and in both instances you do not draw to a close until victory is yours.”

The Dragon’s Loyalty Award

dragons-loyalty-award

This award comes to me from Danica at Living a Beautiful Life

What is The Dragon’s Loyalty Award?

The Dragon’s Loyalty Award is an award for the loyal follower/commenter/fan, whether the recipient is a fellow blogger or a blog-free someone who follows and comments regularly.

The rules for this award are:

° Put the logo on your post
° Thank the blogger who nominated you
° Share 5 facts about yourself
° Nominate 5-10 bloggers

This is an award for those essential members of the blogging world who make an effort to read, comment and interact with other bloggers. Among these activities are re-blogging a post that they think will be of interest to other readers, using other social media to promote the posts that they feel are interesting enough to share-and just being damned good people.

One crucial lesson I’ve learned on WordPress is that it’s important to show respect for the people who read my blog by reading theirs.

Without the interaction blogging would be an arid experience.

My gratitude to Danica for being among the first bloggers on WordPress to instruct by doing.

When I first joined Word Press I had a negative attitude and thought I could blog without interacting with other bloggers.

Danica’s warmth and comments on my first efforts were so surprising and different from my experiences on other social media that I wondered why she was so nice.

Eventually, I discovered a network of people who do what they do for the sheer pleasure of doing.

Actions are instructional.

I’m going to keep this quote from Danica’s post because she says it beautifully:

Thank you all!

Thank you to everyone who has read, liked, followed and/or commented on my postsYou’ve encouraged and inspired me and I genuinely appreciate you.

Five facts about me:

Fact one: I shared a cottage in San Francisco’s Mission District with my literary mentor. Most members of San Francisco’s lit scene thought I was his boyish-toy but it was a genuine student/teacher relationship.

Fact two: I’ve never read what it’s like to interact with me as a person with DID until I read a post from thepublicblogger. When I asked my partner if my DID ever caused him to become a nervous wreck he laughed hysterically. That was two days ago and he hasn’t stopped laughing.

Fact Three: I lived in an African-American Housing project in Charleston, South Carolina. My family was the only white family in the entire project.

Fact Four: I know how to make soul food…I’m talkin hoppin’ john, biscuits from scratch and real southern fried chicken.

Fact Five: Guilty pleasure. Cher-Believe (IMO this is blackmail material)

My nominees are splendid people and are not the entire list of bloggers I’ve met and grown to admire on WordPress. Some of my nominees are blog free or may already have gotten this award.

I’m nominating in the spirit of the award. There is no obligation to accept the award.
